It's for maintenance. If I was paying out of pocket I don't think it would be a big deal, but IIRC they need the old part to "prove" they did warranty work. The dealer I'm going to doesn't see many Z4M's; they had to order my rear rotors and pads. I doubt they have any old rotors laying around, but I'll ask.
