Just took the assembly back out of the car. That took all of seven minutes...
Did a visual compare to the old carrier, same part numbers....

Put it back in and the issue fixed itself... What was the issue, who knows...

Works now. The large rubber boot took about two minutes to install.

Now to put all the removed interference back on the car.

The secret to the 'Spawn of Satan' is to use a small screwdriver on the flat side of the coupler. This pops off the retaining ring in nothing flat. I used a Phillips bit to start pushing the pin out. Then a piece of copper wire (12ga) and the pin just fell out.

If all the interference is removed, I could pull the assembly out of the car in less than 30min.
