I've only owned my M Roadster since July but I've only experienced something like this once. Maybe because I live in SoCal and BMWs, Mercedes', and even more exotic cars are a dime a dozen but nobody seems fazed by most cars.
A few weeks ago I drove by a couple of young kids playing in front of a house in my neighborhood. One of the kids, maybe 6-7, looked up, saw my car, stood up and turned around to follow my car up the street. Even though it was a young kid, it made me feel good because kids don't seem to be attracted to cars anymore, certainly not like I was when I was a kid growing up in the Detroit area in the 50's and 60's.
Back in 2000 when my previous car, an S2000, was brand new, I had lots of these kinds of experiences, including a guy that got out of his car at a light to come back and look at my car.
One day I stopped to get gas. My car was Silverstone Metallic, a darker, kind of platinum silver. There was a totally hot brunette pumping gas on the other side of the pump. She came around the pump, looked at my car and said, in an awesomely sexy voice, "Ooh, I love that color! It's s-m-o-k-y!". Made my day, probably my week!
