Yes last I heard ESS still had to open them, however it is more then possible to flash the ECU through the OBDII port.

You must be misinformed my friend, even ESS opens the ECU. It's the only way to tune our cars
It doesn't mean much I mean you said ess makes 8hp and according to that dyno this tune is 20hp, But the dynos don't mean anything. Most companies are doing the same things opening up fueling and timing from OEM restrictions and at such low HP deltas The dynos are more often reflections of good and poor conditions more so then any tuning involved.

And you would be the one who is misinformed, just because ESS opens the ECU as well doesn't mean it's the only way to flash the car, it's actually an "easy" way out when you don't have the appropriate software and protocols. There is a company with them and I have that software which allows the flashing through the CAN.

I don't think it's no good, I know nothing about it. I was only commenting that having a dyno that says "it makes 20hp" doesn't make it "better" or necessarily good at all. With these kind of things the only way you're really going to know what's good is by independent customer experience or the reputation of the company releasing the tune. Never heard of bren tune and there's just this guy with it. So I wouldn't touch it personally.
