This thread has been going on a long time. Just bought a '06 3.0Si that came with the sound generator. It sounded aggressive sometimes, at other rev ranges and gears the resonance sounded like a leaky muffler behind the dashboard. decided to disconnect it.
Removed the hose, and used rubber rear shock absorber covers from the Z3 and E36 to cover the sound generator outlet, and plug the rubber grommet in the firewall. I can see why some people like it.
