Some 17"s will clear the stock brakes while some will not. To be certain you should just try one of the wheels on.
As for tire sizes, if you want a squared setup the correct tire size for 17"s is
225/50/17 all around. 225/45/17 is too thin of a sidewall.
You never mentioned the width of the rim, that is important too when you mention offset. If they are 8" you are fine in the front but you will need a significant spacer at the back to keep the wheel from being tucked under the fender.
