For 2009, the SDrive 35i was known to be subject to frequent and repeated failure of the high pressure fuel pump, or HPFP as you will see them called. If you are interested on one of those, be sure that it has been properly fixed. It's my understanding that the issue was fixed on subsequent cars. As the SDrive 30i uses a normally aspirated N52, same as the 3.0 SI, it is not turbo charged, does not use HPFPs and is not subject to that worry.

As to the looks of the E89, I think it looks good, although not quite as aggressive as an E85. It could hardly be called meek in appearance. The interior is much improved in my view, much more upscale then the E85 and properly befitting a BMW. It's one of my beefs with the E85 - the interior of my 2009 Honda Accord looks more expensive. The folding hard top is very cool but it does eat into trunk space with the top down. You will find the ride softer than your E85.

Best advice though Is to drive one and see if you like it better!
