Way way too much oil in there. I use about 1-2 plys of paper towels to just wipe clean. Is something blocking the drain hole?

I also pour about 3/4 to 1 quart of oil, slowly, down the sides of the filter to pre-soak is as part of my refilling routine. That way there's less chance of lubrication starvation on start--or so the theory goes. The goal is to pour very slowly so that it flows over the sides.

Report back on progress. No way it should be pooling like that--I get lazy and only jack the front sometimes and I never see anything like that.
