If memory serves, the vanos accumulator bracket is bolted through the motor mount into the block. You should check to make sure your motor mount bolts aren't loose/missing.

When I replaced all my motor mount bolts with the grade 10.9 bolts + Nord locks, I also found that my vanos accumulator line was leaking. I just used a bunch of degreaser, but mine wasn't nearly as bad as your sounds.

For what it's worth, I also ordered a braided steel flexible line from Bimmerworld. It's probably the same one Rogue stocks. It's a bit of a pain to install the bracket bolts, but it seems to work fine. After getting this line though I read that lots of people recommend replacing the flex line after a few years.

Edit: One other thing I remembered from my research... The actual hard line (#2 in your diagram) only had 1 bracket on earlier models. It was replaced by a newer part that had 2 brackets to help minimize failures. The line on my 2007 Z4MC had 2 brackets and it still leaked after only 40K Miles.
