I found that rubber / bushings etc will degrade or harden over time regardless of mileage and then they will make noise.
Replace with OEM or new silicone bushings and - no noise.
I would check them before getting new shocks or mounts

This is a very good description of what I experience. This sounds like a place to start since there seem to be a few possibilities. Thanks everybody for your suggestions.
