Certainly not a normal car audio woofer (4 ohm), you'll blow the amp for sure.
I dont know how an 8 ohm will perform (amp wise, will it blow up, get hot or go into a safe mode), but the other problem is: try and find a suitable 8 ohm sub (long throw) in that size and suitable for that enclosure.
I dont know if you know anything about speaker design (do you know what Thiele/Small parameters are and can you use them in calculations?), but not every speaker is suitable for every enclosure (both in size and enclosure type).
So the best way to go is to get a used speaker from ebay. They are plentiful and not expensive. Usually $30-60 ex shipping.

This is what Im going to end up doing. I went to a few audio stores to see if they could rebuild/repair the sub, and I was quoted with $80-$120. I would much rather just get a used one. Does it matter which side it comes out of? Or do I have to specifically get a passenger side replacement?
