The S14 also had issues with rod bearings; The most important thing to remember is that rod bearings are protected by hydrodynamic lubrication. In layman, this means that the rod bearing and crank are separated by oil pressure. Most engines, and especially high performance ones, have 10PSI per 1K RPM minimum.
