All the clutch delay valve does is delay the engagement of the clutch and makes it slip when you let out the pedal by restricting the flow of hydraulic fluid between the clutch master cylinder and the clutch slave cylinder. I think it was pure unluky for you.
Great for teaching a beginner to drive a manual transmission but quite irritating for a seasoned vet.
