If they are real carbon epoxy parts made properly 1.8 lbs each sounds about right. It's got some nice curved geometry to stiffen it up. Our fenders aren't that big. As long as the mounting points are executed well the weight is believable. 1.8kg is a boat anchor!
Since they are low volume parts he could probably throw another ply in for a small upcharge, but over $2k for fenders is getting a little stiff.
