I have the opposite problem. I pulled up too hard one time on the handbrake, and after that when released the pads were dragging the drum, making that aweful noise as the wheel rotated. Not sure about the brakes dragging, but the leather armrest just pulls up and off. Lift up on the rear of it and pull up and forward. It helps if you have the e-brake handle up a little as the boot it attached to it. That is the easy part. Good luck.
