I had exactly the same issue and often had to punch the sport mode button on deeply grooved freeways like I often encounter in Oregon. I did find that Sport mode gave me more control, but the extent of the tramlining was troubling to me.
I just put on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s and the tramlining disappeared entirely - even on the most heavily grooved roadways.
