And before someone takes my comment the wrong way, the 3.0i and si are fantastic cars. If you love yours, you can mod the hell out of it (supercharger, etc.). However if you're simply looking at performance per dollar, an M is a better deal.
I like my si in stock form for its low end "pull small buildings across town" torque. But yes, if its raw unadulterated horsepower you are after, start with an M.
