Not the first time I've seen this part mentioned as degrading, so I imagine it's going to be a continuing replacement item over time.
If someone does the replacement themselves out of warranty, posting a DIY could be pretty handy

Mines out of warranty (2003) unfortunatly
But it's really badly degraded! We do have a wide range of weather here though (-30 winter to +40 summer), so I'm hoping it's down to that.
