Of course it could be done, given enough time, design work, and money. To have it look OEM, function well and maintain the car's balance and structural integrity would probably cost many multiples of what the car is worth. Even with an exceptional job you'd most likely have a hard time convincing many that it was an improvement.

If you have a car you are willing to sacrifice, and the resources, engineering and fabrication capabilities to do it properly, go for it - it's your car. If you expect to accomplish this with a shoestring budget, a Harbor Freight welder and case or two of Bondo, please try it on an a Ford Fiesta or something first - see how that turns out.
