Changing bulb for Angel Eyes on 06M coupe

Leave it to the Germans to make a bulb change a PIA and add cost to the whole process.

The directions in the Owners manual are NOT because they state to take it to the dealer - crock.
They saw turn the wheel out and open the flap = well if you are trying to change the bulb good chance you can take off the wheel which makes it a lot easier.
Unscrew the inner wheel well door on the top - turn the plastic out like a screw and it takes a turn and a half = I buggered one up and used a plastic expandable anchor like holds on the plastic trim.

You can see the cover of the light receptacle held on with a wire = flip it down and work the cover out = hold the wires and cables out of the way and pull the closest end first = wiggles - it will come out - you may want to lube the rubber gasket on it so you get a better seal when you put it back on

The bulb holder is on the right - black plastic - with 2 torx head screws holding it plus you turn it a bit counter clockwise - You should use a screwdriver that is magnetic so you don't drop the screws taking them out or putting them back.

The holder then comes out and you can undo the plug for the double wires on it - just pull the plug in straight out. Then you have the holder in your hand. Heres is where the engineers screw the poor owners. The bulb is a bayonet bulb like millions of others - push in slightly against the spring on the bottom and turn counterclockwise about 1 /10 turn so it clears the slots. IF THEY WERE kind they would have made the black plastic the same shape as the metal bayonet socket but NOT _ it is smaller so once you loosen the bulb out of the notches - pull it up and PULL IT OUT. THE EDGES OF THE PLASTIC WILL BREAK ON ONE OR BOTH SIDES - NO problems - you can remove the bulb and put one back in -- otherwise you have to buy the entire unit.

The BULB is a Phillips 12082 12v 10 watts halogen. There are bosch and osram bulbs the same - think they are 39423 and 64113 respectively and any of them are tough to find other than at a dealers. The regular bayonets are 2 -4 watts and will not light the rings up very much -- some LED's will but you will not get rid of the bulb out indicator on your dash and if you use a lower voltage than 10 the same thing happens. You need the exact bulb to light up the finer optic and provide enough resistance to shut off the indicator on the dash.

Once you have the bulb make sure you do not touch it with your fingers because it will reduce the life of the bulb a lot.

Put it in the holder - push in - turn a bit - can check it lights before you put it back into the headlight receptacles by plugging in the 2 wire plug before you screw it back in - if it lights up and the dash light goes out - put it back together and you are done/

WIth the wheel off you have visibility and it makes it a lot easier and you can actually see the TOrx screws out and in so for the 5-10 minutes it takes it will save you kicking the shit out of your car trying to do it by feel
