If the spring or perch is next to the tire, then a thick spacer may be required for clearance which makes the fitment far too aggressive. A 5mm spacer would be acceptable, but anything thicker would push the setup too far out. The stock strut’s integrated lower spring perch can clear the 265 setup, so a simple lowering spring and camber plate install can make for a very ideal track setup on the Z4 M. Many coilovers use long springs, helper/tender springs, or cone shaped springs. These may have to be replaced with a single shorter spring usually 6-5″ in length to guarantee that the perch remains above the tire.

On this car we used an 18x9.5" ET43 (Profile 2) with a 12mm spacer and a 265/35/18 tire. This made the wheel effectively an 18x9.5" ET31. As long as you have about -2 degrees camber an 18x9" ET31 could also be used in the front with a 245/40/18 tire.

An 18x9.5" ET35 can also be used without a spacer in the front with a 265/35/18 tire and -2.5 to -3 degrees negative camber. Like below:
So the 18x9" ET31 should fit ok with about -2 camber and a 245/40 tire even without a spacer correct ?
