Like everything else, the direction you choose will be a trade-off. There are good ways to build a solid (and quick) NA car and FI does offer the biggest bang for the buck. The bottom end bearings are more likely to wear quicker with FI, but they will also wear under NA if one is continually spinning 7K+ rpm. Have a good look at your state's smog compliance laws before leaping. Here in CA we do not have much choice, although there are reports of FI people who have been successful.
