i was getting a click at first, then nothing for a while. All the lights would power on, and the service records say the battery was changed less than 2 years ago.
I tired again a few minutes ago after the car has cooled for a bit. First try and nothing, no click. I held the key in the start position for 10-15 seconds and it started to turn, but I let it go before I realized it was working. I tried again and nothing
I finally was able to locate the starter (its dark outside already), gonna pick up a replacement tomorrow morning. Looks like I might be able to get it out from the top without taking the intake manifold off. If memory serves, the bolts are E12's? Hopefully this is as easy as it looks

Update: Indeed you can replace the starter without removing the manifold. I replaced it earlier today and wrote about it here:
