If you have never been to a track day / open lapping event, or if you have been before and just need a refresher please keep reading for some tips to help make sure you are properly prepared. Otherwise, thanks and we hope to see you at the track!!
BE PREPARED!
Your Car:
- Inspect brake pads and rotors for wear and/or damage. OEM or equivalent brake pads will be eaten worn much quicker than normal under these extreme driving conditions
- Recommended to bleed your brakes – if you haven’t already, do a complete flush of the OEM fluid and with a good fluid with high boiling temperature. DIG recommends Motul RBF600
- Ensure all exterior lights are functional
- Check all fluid levels
- Ensure all suspension components are in good shape and torqued to spec
- Ensure all wheel lug nuts are torqued to spec
- Inspect tires, check for cracks, buldges and bubbles
- Inspect exhaust. Make sure it is firmly secured and that there are no leaks
- Please make sure there are no loose pieces on the outside of your car that may fall off on the track – this could be very dangerous for you or someone behind you
- Turbo cars make sure all of your couplers are tight and that you have no cracks/leaks in your system
- Alignment: If you haven’t had it done already – Call Sasha at
www.SG-Motorsport.com and have him set your car up properly – a proper alignment will completely transform your car. No, Sasha is not associated with our events – we just love him and he has an incredible new alignment machine from the space age and he knows how to work magic with it.
You:
- We recommend that you arrive 30 minutes in advance in order to get maximum driving time on the track. You’ll need to register, get all of the loose odds and ends out of your vehicle, possibly change your wheels/tires to what you’ll be using on the track, etc.
- Bring extra cash. You hopefully won’t need it, but you never know what could happen under these unpredictable conditions. You might find yourself having to purchase something from someone (fluids, fuel.. who knows)
- Bring extra GAS! There is not 94 octane close to the track. There is however an Esso about 10 minutes away that has the usual 87/89/91 if you need it
- Fluids: Bring extra brake fluid, oil, coolant.
- Bring a friend! Spectators are always free and always welcome. More people means more fun for everyone
- CAA – If you don’t already have it, get it! They’ll tow you up to 4 times per year up to 200 kilometers per tow! For about $100/year you’ll never have to worry about paying $300 or $400 to get your car towed home.
- Spare tire(s), because you just never know
- Tools! Lots of people there will have tools but don’t bank on them – bring your own just in case
- Tire Pressure Tester, this is not only important to have with you always but very helpful in fine tuning your tire pressures at the track
- Folding chair. Trust us.
- Camera
-
That’s all for now. We hope to see you all out there this summer. Have fun and be safe!
Love,
The DIG Track Days Crew
