I hear ya, this happened to my old z3. The damage to my car was considerably a lot less then what you have. Only my bumper was hit and it only had I few scratches. I though they would have it reconditioned but instead they replaced the entire bumper.
From what I see they'll be replacing both your bumper and your trunk lid. How come your concerned about costs? Wasn't the dude insured?
